Red Bombs

Weddings, otherwise commonly known as "Red Bombs" in Singapore. This is due to the traditional wedding invitation being in red and the custom of giving a red packet when attending one......I've gotten 2 bombs so far this yr and they're on the coming Friday & Saturday.

I was scratching my head over the existing 'market rate' for the bombs when MF sent me something handy....

Wonder if its accurate enough to follow....

War Against Roaches

A war was raging 10mins ago between Uncle Law and 4 roaches, 1 big, 3 small.....

I had just finished scooping my glucolin powder into the cup for my drink when I turned around and saw a BIG roach on the floor metres from me! My first reaction was that : "I must kill it!!!" However, the problem is that the stupid roach is in the path between me and my weapon of choice, Baygons. I carefully skirted around it and managed to reach for my weapon while it remain motionless, probably unsure of my next move....

i readied my index finger on the trigger, aimed and fired away! It ran, I missed... I fired again, strike! It continue running, eventually jumping into the hole leading to the drainage... Damn!! I've lost it!! I fired plenty of gas into the 'chamber' hoping to kill it inside but what happened next shocked me quite abit. Less than 1min after firing 'into the hole', out came 3 baby roaches looking dazed and probably dying soon. I helped them on their way to heaven. :)

The big one escaped. Lucky bastard.......

3days Work-Week

B4 you go telling me how much you envy me for this, let me tell you that I didn't need a 3day work-week for this kind of reason....

I was down with gastric flu.... At least that was what the doctor had told me.

I had woken up several times ytd in the middle of the night feeling weird and bloated but dismissed it as another will-soon-go-away-bloatedness. Guessed I was pretty wrong. I went to work despite feeling the symptoms but I succumb to it and went to the company doctor at 11am. He gave me 2day's worth of MC which I immediately utilises.

The feeling is terrible and I cannot imagine anyone telling me its an enjoyable feeling. Well, at least I've yet to encounter any freaks out there feeling so. The nausea sensation constantly bugs you, I can barely lie down without the fear of my tummy content spilling out. I can barely drink for fear of activating the 'outpour', don't even think about eating.... Lying down is another chore altogether due to the aches all around the body. These aches are simply different from those muscle aches which I sometimes came to enjoy for that means I've really worked my body hard. Back to these aches, they are ever present no matter you are sitting up, standing or even lying down! THEY JUST SEEMED TO NEVER GO AWAY!!

My BC class is affected (missed 2 classes - ytd & today), meals affected, sleep affected.... fell asleep 8pm and woke up in the middle of the night again at around 3am (to switch off the lights). Today's much better for me, the nausea sensation had receded, so had the aches. And I was able to go for 2 short spans of walks around my estate. That really perks me up quite abit!

One thing I've learn from this episode though : that I've still got plenty of friends out there who are concerned about me. They smsed, msned or call me when they heard about my condition from Garion... :)

To all those who cared and had wished me well, a very big THANK YOU to you. May you be blessed with good health and never had to endure what I've been thru. :)

Letter to my BENEFACTOR

Dear Ms Kold,

Thanks for your "guidence", "help" and "mentoring" over the past 2yrs I was under your "care" where I've had enjoyed countless invaluable lessons.

I especially enjoyed how you :
1. sent emails without clear & concise instructions, resulting in me having to re-clarify.
2. sent emails without proper punctuation, grammar or spelling, wasting much time for both parties.
3. laugh heartily whenever I go to you with a problem which I was not able to solve.
4. never offered any advise besides sarcasm when approached for your views on matters.
5. never seemed to give others the basic respect by looking at them while they are talking to you.
6. does not share the "big picture" with the team, resulting in plenty of doubts amongst us.
7. does not enjoyed being questioned about the rationale of doing certain tasks assigned to me.
8. does not provide us due guidance and only know how to lay blame when things screws up.
9. scolds us via email and CC your boss whenever Pt. 8 happens.
10. implement scripts, updates, etc on the domain without informing the team, resulting in confusion when users feedback about errors arising from these actions.
11. did not attempt to share information with the team when you discover something is wrong with the servers under our team.
12. does not shield us and instead "stab" us in the back to your boss(es).
13. seemed to have a natural flair for getting your subordinates who weren't up to your standards to "voluntarily" resign.
14. embrace double-standards when dealing with users, especially those who ranked above you. for the rest of us, you treat us like nobody.
15. use your position to influence your BEST FRIEND the Snr Mgr to implement systems or policies which may be stupid, useless and most imptly, wastes time.

The list of accolades could go forever but I shan't bore you with too much. I'm just feeling kind of sad that I'm going to leave your team for IT Security. I'm not too sure if I can still keep up with my "fighting" nature once I'm over there. One thing I know for sure which makes me extremely sad, whoever I'd be reporting to over there, he/she ain't going to follow the above 15 pts I've listed.

Well, I guess I'd not go on much further as I wouldn't want tears to well up in my eyes, it'd be unglammed...

Once again, THANKS for your invaluable teachings over the past 2yrs. I shall miss working with you.

Yours Sincerely,
Uncle Law

PS : Sorry to have replaced your actual surname, Koh with Kold. Kold is a nickname we've given you due to the "Cold" outlook you've portraited.

Ouch!!

I've read my fair share of news reports from overseas about stewpig things ppls do or happened to them.... But I must admit the following takes a big chunk of the cake!!

*Extracted from the 3rd Sept STi*
---------------------------------------

A SECRETARY accidentally bit off the penis of her employer while giving him oral sex in a car.

Sin Chew Daily and China Press reported yesterday that while the 30-year-old woman was performing oral sex on the man, the car was hit by a reversing van.

The impact of the crash, China Press reported, caused the woman to bite off her lover's organ.

The daily reported that the incident occurred in a Singapore park where the couple met after work.

To make matters worse for the woman, her husband had sent a private investigator to spy on her after suspecting that she was being unfaithful.

The investigator said he had followed the woman and her boss to the park.

'On reaching the park, they did not alight from the car. Not long after, the car started to shake violently.

After the car was hit by the van, there was a loud scream from the woman whose mouth was covered with blood,' he said.

The woman later followed her lover to the hospital with part of the sexual organ.

The investigator, who called an ambulance to send the man to hospital, said that this was the first time he had encountered such an incident.

---------------------------------------

This is really hilarious... BJing until shiok shiok, outta the blue comes a BANG and an extreme pain :p

Get that man a TIGER!!

PS : I mean the van driver...

War Against Swine....

Flu, that is ....

In case you've been on some other planets all these while or hiding in some cave (from loan sharks), the Swine Flu has become the talk all over town and possibly the world nowadays.

Brought Hero to NUH the other day for an appointment and as expected, they had already started those temperature checks and visitor registrations. From the looks of the way they run the whole operations, it seemed like a well-oiled machinary. I'm sure they've been briefed and drilled often thruout 'peacetime' to prepare for a rainy day like now. No doubt we're still free from Swine Flu, I've no doubt and totally agree with the Goverment that its a matter of sooner or later that we're hit too. By then, MOH's DORS (Disease Outbreak Response System, Page 9) should move up 1 more notch to Red. I doubt we will move to Black, hope not...

Seeing what the NUH folks are doing reminds me of the SARS days where upon reaching the entrance of the hospital, you'd have your temperature taken and if you're cleared, you'd be given a green sticker. Patients get another coloured sticker. If your temperature is considered high, you'd be quarantined to another room and have your temperature re-taken after a while to confirm the readings. Once confirmed, God knows where they'll sent you :p.

Recalling back during the SARS outbreak, (was working in a hotel back then) we were issued thermometers and had to take our temperature daily in the presence of the Security Officer and record the readings in a file according to our name. Visitors to the hotel also had to have their temperature taken at the entrance prior to entering the premises. Occupancy rates dropped from 80+% to 40+%. On a good day, you'd get 50%! All staff also had to take a designated amount of leave per month. I remembered taking about 20 over days in all over a 3-5mth period, wiping out all my annual leave and incurring some unpaid leave too. Some of my then-colleagues were receptive to the idea but I see it more like helping the company to stay afloat so as to keep us all our job. 1 good thing from this 'sticking thru with the company' was that when the crisis was over and occupancy started picking up again, they paid us back for those leave taken plus abit more as bonuses!

Not trying to sound propagandic here but I really feel that with experience from previous outbreaks (SARS, Bird-Flu, Dengue, etc), Singapore is able to learn from the lesson and refine the SOPs along the way. Even if we weren't hit, we'd still send our folks to the affected countries (after the outbreak, of course) and learn from them.

Once again, I must re-iterate that I feel very proud to be a Singaporean having seen our Front-Line folks swing into full gear and all ready at the 'touch of a button' by MOH.

Anyone still thinking of migration?
